How do I bill my clients with the WHMCS that comes with master reseller?

Ask us for your WHMCS licence key, install WHMCS on a subdomain of your brand, connect it to your WHM with an API token, then create a product for each plan you sell. Orders are then invoiced, paid and set up automatically.

Every master reseller plan includes a WHMCS licence, and so do cPanel reseller plans from Reseller 6. WHMCS sends your invoices, takes payment through the gateways you choose, creates accounts in WHM when a client pays, and suspends them when an invoice is overdue.

Install it

  1. Get the licence. Open a support ticket on your master reseller plan and ask for your WHMCS licence key and the installation files for the current version.
  2. Prepare a home for it. Create a subdomain such as billing.yourbrand.co.zw (how), make sure it has SSL, and create an empty database and user.
  3. Set PHP. In cPanel, open Software → Select PHP Version. Choose a version that the current WHMCS release supports (see the WHMCS documentation) and switch on the ionCube Loader extension.
  4. Install. Upload and extract the files into the subdomain's folder, open https://billing.yourbrand.co.zw/install/, and enter your licence key and database details. When the installer finishes, delete the install folder.
  5. Add the cron job. WHMCS shows the exact command under Configuration → System Settings → Automation Settings. Add it in cPanel to run every five minutes (see How do I set up a cron job?). Without it, no invoices, reminders or suspensions go out.

Connect it to WHM

  1. In WHM, open Development → Manage API Tokens and generate a token for WHMCS. Copy it straight away, because WHM shows it only once.
  2. In WHMCS, open Configuration → System Settings → Servers and add a server with the cPanel module. Enter the server hostname from your welcome email, your WHM username and the token, plus your branded nameservers. Click Test Connection.

Set up what you sell

  1. Under Configuration → System Settings → Products/Services, create a product group, then one product for each plan. Set prices and billing cycles on the Pricing tab.
  2. On the Module Settings tab, choose cPanel, your server and the WHM package. Set the product to be created automatically as soon as the first payment arrives.
  3. To sell reseller accounts, use the cPanel module's reseller options on the same tab (for example the ACL and account limit), so the buyer gets their own WHM.
  4. Add the payment methods your clients use under Configuration → System Settings → Payment Gateways. Your clients pay you, through your own account with each payment provider.
  5. Add your company name, logo and invoice details under General Settings, then place a real test order before you go live.

Tip: Keep WHMCS up to date and turn on two-factor authentication for the admin area. It holds your clients' details and a token that can create and delete their accounts.
