In WHM, use Account Functions → Manage Account Suspension to suspend an account, which you can undo, or Account Functions → Terminate Accounts to delete it permanently. Always take a backup before you delete.
Suspend (you can undo it)
- Log in to WHM and open Account Functions → Manage Account Suspension.
- Select the account and type a reason for your own records.
- Click Suspend.
- To bring the account back, return to the same page, select it and click Unsuspend.
A suspended account keeps its files, databases and mailboxes, so it still uses space on your plan. Visitors see a suspended-account page instead of the website, and the client cannot log in to cPanel.
Delete (permanent)
- Take a backup first, in case the client comes back or asks for their data. Open Account Information → List Accounts, click the cPanel icon next to the account, and make a full backup (see How do I back up my website?). Download it.
- Open Account Functions → Terminate Accounts.
- Select the account. Leave the option to keep the DNS zone off, unless the domain's DNS must keep working somewhere else on the server.
- Confirm the termination.
Tip: Termination is permanent. The account's website, databases and email are deleted with it, so make sure you have that backup downloaded before you confirm.
If you bill with WHMCS
WHMCS can suspend accounts automatically when an invoice is overdue and unsuspend them when it is paid. Set the timing under Configuration → System Settings → Automation Settings. To suspend or delete by hand, use the Suspend, Unsuspend or Terminate module buttons on the client's service in WHMCS rather than WHM. That way, the client's billing status matches their account.
- One of my accounts is suspended, and I did not do it.
- We may suspend an account that is sending spam, spreading malware or putting the server at risk, as set out in our Service Level Agreement. If you cannot unsuspend it, open a ticket and we will tell you why and what needs fixing.
- Does a suspended account still count towards my plan?
- Yes. Its files and email stay on the server until you terminate it.
