How do I create a cPanel account for a client in WHM?

In WHM, open Account Functions → Create a New Account. Enter the client's domain, a username, a strong password and their email, choose a package and click Create.

First, make a package

A package sets an account's disk space, bandwidth, mailboxes and databases. Make one for each plan you sell, so every client on that plan gets the same limits.

  1. Log in to WHM with the details in your welcome email (see How do I log in to WHM?).
  2. Open Packages → Add a Package.
  3. Name it after your plan. WHM puts your reseller username in front, for example yourname_Starter.
  4. Set the limits and click Add.

Create the account

  1. Open Account Functions → Create a New Account.
  2. Domain: the client's main domain, such as clientbusiness.co.zw, without www.
  3. Username: WHM suggests one based on the domain. Keep it short; the client will use it to log in.
  4. Password: use the Password Generator for a strong one and keep a record of it.
  5. Email: the client's contact address. cPanel sends warnings there, such as disk-space alerts.
  6. Package: choose the package you made.
  7. Leave mail routing on automatic detection, unless the client's email will be hosted elsewhere (for example Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace). In that case, choose the remote mail exchanger option.
  8. Click Create. WHM shows a summary with the IP address and nameservers. Send the client their login details.

The site, email and free SSL only work once the client's domain points to the nameservers on your account. Use your own branded nameservers so clients never see ours. Every account counts towards your plan's storage and bandwidth. You can create as many accounts as those allow.

Tip: If you bill with WHMCS, do not create accounts by hand. Set the product to create the account automatically when the client pays, so WHM and your billing stay in step.

How do I get into a client's cPanel?
In WHM, open Account Information → List Accounts and click the cPanel icon next to the account. You are signed in without their password.
Can I change the package later?
Yes: see How do I change a client's package in WHM?
