Go to https://your-server-hostname:2087 in a browser and sign in with the WHM username and password from the handover email we sent when your managed cPanel VPS was ready. The main WHM account is normally root.
- Find your handover details. Your managed cPanel VPS is handed over with your WHM login, about three hours after payment. Can’t find the email? In the client area, open Email History. If your service page in the client area has a WHM login button, that works too.
- Open WHM. In a browser, go to
https://server.yourdomain.com:2087, using the hostname from your handover email. The IP address works too (https://203.0.113.24:2087), but the browser may show a certificate warning. - Sign in with the username and password, and click Log in.
- Secure it. Change the password under Server Configuration → Change Root Password, and turn on two-factor authentication under Security Center → Two-Factor Authentication.
Can’t get in?
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Page times out | Some office and hotel networks block port 2087. Try your phone’s mobile data. If WHM loads there, the network is blocking it, or the server’s firewall blocked your IP after failed logins: see The firewall blocked my IP address. |
| “Your connection is not private” | You used the IP address. Use the server hostname instead. |
| Login invalid | Check Caps Lock and copy the password again. The root WHM password is the server’s root password, so if you can still SSH in as root, passwd resets both. Otherwise open a ticket. |
WHM or cPanel?
WHM runs the whole server: you create and manage cPanel accounts there. Each website’s email, files and databases are handled inside its own cPanel. To open a site’s cPanel from WHM, go to Account Information → List Accounts and click the cPanel icon next to the account.
Don’t give the root login to clients or developers. Create a separate cPanel account for each site, so a mistake in one can’t touch the others.
