Usually because WordPress sends form mail without logging in to a real mailbox, often 'from' the visitor's address, so receiving servers reject it or file it as spam. Send through a real mailbox on your domain with an SMTP plugin, use that mailbox as the From address, and check SPF and DKIM.
- Check the form really submits. Most form plugins can store entries in wp-admin. If entries arrive but emails don’t, it’s a mail problem, and the steps below fix it.
- Create a mailbox for the website, for example
[email protected]: see How do I create an email address on my domain? - Install an SMTP plugin, such as WP Mail SMTP or FluentSMTP, from Plugins → Add New Plugin. Choose the generic Other SMTP mailer.
- Enter the settings cPanel shows under Email → Email Accounts → Connect Devices: the outgoing server (often
mail.yourdomain.com), port 465, SSL/TLS, authentication on, the full email address as the username and its password. - Fix the From address. In your form’s notification settings, set From Email to the website mailbox. Put the visitor’s email field in Reply-To, so pressing reply still answers them.
- Send a test from the SMTP plugin’s test page to a Gmail or Outlook address, and check the spam folder.
- Check SPF and DKIM. In cPanel, open Email → Email Deliverability and repair anything flagged: see How do I set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC?
Email on Google Workspace or Microsoft 365?
If your domain’s mail is handled elsewhere but the website is on our hosting, the server may deliver form mail to an empty mailbox on the hosting account instead of to Google or Microsoft. In cPanel, open Email → Email Routing and choose Remote Mail Exchanger for the domain. Then send form mail through your Google or Microsoft account, using the SMTP plugin’s mailer for that provider. See How do I set up Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 email on my domain?
Tip: Add a spam check to the form, such as Cloudflare Turnstile or Google reCAPTCHA. Bots that fill in your form send junk through your mailbox, and that hurts how well your real mail is delivered.
Still not arriving? Open a support ticket with the domain, the form’s From address and the time you sent a test.
