In cPanel, open Email → Email Accounts, click Manage next to the address, enter a new password under Security and click Update Email Settings. Then type the new password on every phone and computer that uses that mailbox.
In cPanel
- Log in to cPanel. The quickest way is from the client area, under Services.
- Open Email → Email Accounts.
- Click Manage next to the address.
- Under Security, type a new password or click Generate.
- Click Update Email Settings at the bottom of the page.
From webmail
Staff without cPanel access can change their own password. Sign in to webmail, click your email address at the top right and choose Password & Security. If you don’t see that option, ask whoever manages your cPanel.
Then update your devices
Phones, Outlook and other mail apps keep using the old password until you change it. When they show a password error, enter the new one. Some apps also store a separate password for the outgoing server. Check both.
An old phone or laptop still trying the old password can trigger the server firewall and block your connection. Update or remove the account on every device straight away. If you get blocked, see The firewall blocked my IP address.
- I forgot the password. Can you tell me what it was?
- No one can read the old password. Whoever manages cPanel can set a new one using the steps above.
- Is this the same as my cPanel or client area password?
- No. Each mailbox has its own password. See change my cPanel password or reset my client area password.
- I think someone else knows the password.
- Change it now, then follow My email account has been hacked to check for forwarding rules and other changes.
