In Gmail on a computer, open Settings, then See all settings, Accounts and Import, and Send mail as. Add your business address and send it through your Tremhost mail server on port 465 with SSL. Gmail emails a code to your business mailbox to confirm the address is yours.
- In cPanel, open Email → Email Accounts and click Connect Devices next to the mailbox. Keep that page open: it lists the exact server names and ports for your account.
- In Gmail on a computer, click the gear icon, then See all settings, and open the Accounts and Import tab.
- Next to Send mail as, click Add another email address.
- Enter your name and business address, leave Treat as an alias ticked, and click Next Step.
- Fill in the SMTP details: SMTP server as shown in Connect Devices (often
mail.yourdomain.com), port 465, your full business address as the username, the mailbox password, and Secured connection using SSL. Click Add Account. - Gmail sends a confirmation email to your business address. Open it in webmail and click the link, or type the code into Gmail.
- When you write a message, choose your business address in the From line.
On the same tab, choose Reply from the same address the message was sent to so replies go out from the right address. Once set up on the web, the address also appears in the From line of the Gmail app on your phone.
Getting mail for that address into Gmail
Send mail as covers sending only. To receive in Gmail as well, add a forwarder in cPanel from your business address to your Gmail address: see How do I forward email to another address? Or keep reading it in webmail or the Gmail app. Google has been withdrawing Gmail’s older “Check mail from other accounts” option, so don’t rely on it.
Always send through your own mail server as above. That way your domain’s SPF and DKIM match, and your messages are less likely to land in spam.
