Can I get an expired domain back?

Often, if you act quickly. During the grace period you can still renew it (our store lists 30 days for .com, .net and .org), but a .co.zw has no listed grace period, so contact us the same day. Once the name is released and someone else registers it, the only way back is to buy it from the new owner.

  1. Find out where it stands. Search for the name on Domains. If it shows as available, it has been released: register it again straight away.
  2. If it's registered with Tremhost and still shows as taken, pay the renewal invoice under Billing → My Invoices, or message billing on WhatsApp +263 78 596 0376 with the domain name. We'll tell you whether it can still be renewed and what it costs.
  3. If it's registered with another company, renew it there first. An expired domain usually can't be transferred until it has been renewed at its current registrar.
  4. If someone else has registered it, it's theirs. You can contact the new owner and offer to buy it, or choose a new name.

How long you have

ExtensionAfter expiry
.com, .net, .orgA 30-day grace period is listed in our store. After it, some generic domains can be restored for a short time at an extra cost before they are released; ask us at once.
.co.zwNo grace period is listed. Message us the day you notice.
Other extensionsEach registry sets its own rules. Ask us and we'll tell you the quickest way back for yours.

Tip: Once the domain is back, check that your website and email work, and switch on Auto Renew under Domains with funds in your account, so it can't lapse again.

I renewed, but the site is still down.

The domain was in my web designer's name.
