In Mail on your Mac, choose Mail, then Add Account, then Other Mail Account, and enter your name, full email address and password. If Mail can't find the settings itself, choose IMAP and enter the server name from cPanel's Connect Devices page.
- In cPanel, open Email → Email Accounts and click Connect Devices next to the mailbox. Keep that page open: it lists the exact server names and ports for your account.
- Open Mail. If it is your first account, Mail asks you to add one straight away; otherwise choose Mail → Add Account from the menu bar.
- Select Other Mail Account and click Continue.
- Enter your name, full email address and the mailbox password, then click Sign In.
- If Mail says it can’t verify the account, fill in the extra boxes: username is your full email address, account type IMAP, and incoming and outgoing mail server both as shown in Connect Devices. Click Sign In again.
- Choose the apps to use with the account (Mail, and Notes if you want) and click Done.
Check the ports
Open Mail → Settings (Preferences on older macOS), click Accounts, select the account and open Server Settings. If sending or receiving fails, untick Automatically manage connection settings and set these:
| Incoming (IMAP) | Outgoing (SMTP) | |
|---|---|---|
| Server | As in Connect Devices | Same server name |
| Port | 993 | 465 |
| Use TLS/SSL | On | On |
| User name | Full email address | Full email address |
| Authentication | Password | Password |
Click Save.
If Mail warns that it can’t verify the identity of the server, don’t click Continue. Check the server name matches Connect Devices exactly.
- Mail keeps asking for my password.
- Test the password in webmail. If it works there, re-enter it in the account’s settings, for both incoming and outgoing servers.
