Order Armor Guard ($9 a month) or another Armor plan, then give us access to your domain’s DNS, and we set up Cloudflare in front of your site with rules written for it. It works with any hosting, not only Tremhost.
- Choose a plan. Armor Guard covers one website with Cloudflare Pro-grade firewall, DDoS protection and CDN for $9 a month or $90 a year. Armor Shield, $200 a month per site, is for sites that take payments or hold client data. Compare them on Tremhost Armor.
- Order it. Order from the Armor Guard or Armor Shield page, or sign in to the client area, open Store and choose the Tremhost Armor group. Pay the invoice the usual way.
- Give us DNS access. If your domain is registered with Tremhost, we can make the DNS change for you. If it is registered elsewhere, we tell you exactly what to change at your registrar, or you give us access there.
- Let us configure it. We set up the firewall, SSL and caching rules for your site. Mention anything unusual, such as a payment page, an admin area used from one office, or an app that talks to your site.
- Check your site and email. Open the site on your phone over mobile data and on a computer, then send and receive a test email from your domain.
Things to know before you switch
- Email must bypass Cloudflare. The record your MX points to (often
mail.yourdomain.com) has to be set to DNS only, the grey cloud. If it is proxied (orange cloud), mail can stop arriving. - Don’t switch SSL to Flexible. Your Tremhost hosting already has free SSL, so Cloudflare’s SSL/TLS mode should be Full (strict). Flexible on a cPanel site often causes “too many redirects” errors.
- Already on Cloudflare’s free plan? Say so when you order. Moving to Armor takes about ten minutes, and your site stays on Cloudflare throughout.

- Do I have to host with Tremhost?
- No. Armor works with any hosting. We only need access to your domain’s DNS.
- Do I already have Cloudflare?
- If you are on managed WordPress, yes: Cloudflare Pro is included on every site. The Big Mike hosting plan includes it for your main domain.
