What Plesk is
Plesk is a commercial control panel for web servers. It gives administrators, hosting companies and developers a browser-based way to manage websites, domains, email, databases, DNS, SSL certificates and backups without working on the command line for every task.

What a shared Plesk licence is
Software vendors sell licences directly to each customer. A shared licence is a different arrangement: a licence provider holds licensing arrangements and makes the software available to its own customers, who pay the provider. The provider activates the licence on your server and keeps it working.
“Shared” refers to this licensing arrangement. It does not mean your server is shared with anyone. You install Plesk on your own VPS or dedicated server, and your accounts, sites and data are yours.
Because these are third-party licensing arrangements, not licences issued to you directly by Plesk, support normally comes from the licence provider rather than from Plesk’s own support desk.

- What does “one-off” or “lifetime” cover? Ask what happens if the provider’s arrangement changes, and whether the licence is tied to one server or IP address.
- Can you move it? Find out whether you can transfer the licence to a new server.
- Do your obligations allow it? Organisations with strict procurement, audit or compliance rules may need a licence bought directly from the vendor.
- What is the refund policy?
Whatever licence you use, keep regular off-server backups. A control panel licence problem should never put your data at risk.
