Best Web Hosting for Agencies: What to Compare in 2026

The best web hosting for an agency depends on how you bill clients, how many sites you run and how much server work you want to do. This guide sets out what to compare and a short, unranked shortlist.

Short answer: the best web hosting for agencies and freelancers lets you keep each client site separate, bill or hand over clients cleanly, test changes on staging, restore from daily backups and keep the cost per site predictable. Choose the model first (white-label reseller hosting, managed WordPress per site, or your own managed server), then compare providers within it.

This is Tremhost’s own blog, and Tremhost is one of the providers listed. The shortlist is alphabetical, not a ranking, and competitor facts come from each provider’s own pages as listed on 5 November 2026. We have not run performance tests and do not quote uptime or speed figures.

Three hosting models for agencies

Model How it works Suits
White-label reseller hosting You get WHM, create a cPanel account per client and sell hosting under your own brand Agencies that want recurring hosting revenue and many small sites
Managed WordPress per site The host updates, backs up and secures each WordPress site Agencies that build on WordPress and want less maintenance
Managed server (cPanel VPS) Your own server with cPanel and WHM, maintained by the host Agencies with many or heavier client sites

What makes hosting good for agencies

Separation between client sites

What to check: whether each client gets its own account with its own resource limits and logins. Why: one hacked or overloaded client site should not take down the others, and a client who leaves should be easy to remove.

Client ownership and handover

What to check: whether you can transfer a site or account to the client’s own billing, and who owns the domain. Why: clean handovers protect your reputation; register domains in the client’s name.

White label and billing

What to check: whether your brand appears in the control panel and nameservers, and whether billing software such as WHMCS is included or extra. Why: if you resell hosting, invoicing and account creation should be automated.

Staging and safe updates

What to check: one-click staging copies and whether updates are tested before going live. Why: plugin updates are the most common cause of broken client sites.

Backups and restores

What to check: daily backups, retention period, and per-site self-service restores. Why: you need to restore one client without touching the rest.

Security across every account

What to check: server-level malware scanning, a firewall, free SSL for every client domain and per-account isolation. Why: agencies inherit the security habits of every client; tools that scan and clean across all accounts stop one neglected site becoming a problem for the rest.

Team access

What to check: role-based access for staff and freelancers. Why: sharing one master password is a security risk.

Cost per site at your scale

What to check: the total cost at 5, 20 and 50 sites, including licences and add-ons. Why: plans that look cheap for one site can be expensive at scale, and the reverse.

Support and payment

What to check: support hours in your time zone and accepted payment methods. Why: your clients call you, so you need a host that answers when you are working.

A shortlist of hosting providers for agencies

Kinsta

Kinsta’s agency hosting page lists Agency 20 at $340 a month for 20 WordPress installs, or $284 a month billed annually, excluding tax, with staging, role-based team access at no extra cost, bulk actions and an agency model in which you control client billing (as listed on 5 November 2026).

Tremhost

Tremhost offers all three models. Reseller hosting is 100% white label, with WHM, unlimited cPanel accounts, LiteSpeed, CloudLinux, Imunify360 and free SSL on every plan, from Reseller 1 at $7 a month (25 GB NVMe) to Reseller 9 at $60 a month (1.2 TB NVMe). The reseller page states that WHMCS is free on Reseller 6 ($25 a month) and above, and a paid add-on on smaller plans. Managed WordPress Professional is $30 a month or $350 a year for four sites, with updates tested on staging, daily backups, malware removal and Cloudflare Pro on every site. A managed cPanel VPS starts at $80 a month. Prices are in US dollars, payable by EcoCash, ZimSwitch, card or crypto; support is Monday to Friday, 08:00-17:00 CAT.

WP Engine

WP Engine’s plans page lists the Essential plan starting at $28 a month billed annually, with one-click staging and development environments and transferable sites, which it describes as useful for agencies and freelancers handing sites to clients (as listed on 5 November 2026).

A worked cost example

Suppose you look after 20 small brochure sites, each needing about 1 GB of storage. On white-label reseller hosting, Tremhost’s Reseller 1 ($7 a month, 25 GB) has room, so your hosting cost is $7 a month in total; if you charge each client $5 a month, that is $100 in and $93 left before your time and domains. Twenty managed WordPress sites cost more per site, but include updates, staging, malware removal and a firewall that you would otherwise do yourself. Price your own mix both ways before choosing.

How to decide: a short guide by situation

  • You build simple sites and want recurring revenue: white-label reseller hosting. Read what reseller hosting is if it is new to you.
  • You build on WordPress and sell care plans: managed WordPress with staging and malware removal included, such as Tremhost’s managed WordPress.
  • You run larger or busier client sites: a managed cPanel VPS, which gives you a server of your own without the patching.
  • You hand every site over to the client: favour transferable sites and register domains in the client’s name.
  • Your clients are in Africa: check payment methods, currency and support hours in your time zone.

Frequently asked questions

Should freelancers use reseller hosting?

If you host several client sites and want to bill for hosting, yes. If you only host your own one or two sites, ordinary web hosting is simpler.

Can clients see which host I use on a white-label plan?

On a fully white-label reseller plan, clients see your brand in their control panel and nameservers. Technical users can still look up where a server is hosted.

Is reseller hosting or a VPS better for an agency?

Reseller hosting is cheaper and needs no server administration. A managed VPS gives dedicated resources once client sites outgrow shared servers.

How many client sites fit on one reseller plan?

It depends on storage and bandwidth rather than an account count. Add up your clients’ average site size and monthly traffic, then pick a plan with headroom; Tremhost’s reseller plans range from 250 GB to 20 TB of bandwidth a month, and you can move up a plan as you add clients.

Next step

Count your client sites, estimate their storage, and decide whether you want to resell, manage WordPress per site or run a server. If reselling fits, compare Tremhost’s nine reseller plans; first reseller orders carry a 30-day refund.
