The best dedicated server hosting is the one whose hardware, location, management level and contract terms match your workload, not the one at the top of a list. Before comparing prices, decide whether you need a whole physical server at all, who will manage it, and where it should be. Then compare providers on the criteria below using their own pages.
This is Tremhost’s own blog, and Tremhost is one of the providers listed.
Do you need a dedicated server?
A dedicated server is a physical machine used by one customer. Nothing else runs on its CPU, memory or disks, which gives predictable performance and full control. It makes sense for large databases, busy online stores, many hosting accounts, compliance requirements that rule out shared hardware, or software licensed per physical server.
Many workloads that once needed dedicated hardware now run well on a large virtual server with dedicated CPU cores, which can be resized and is usually ready in minutes rather than days. If your needs fit within a large VPS, start there and move to dedicated hardware when you can prove the need.
What makes dedicated server hosting good for your workload?
Hardware that matches the job
What to check: the CPU model and generation, core count, RAM type and amount, and disk type (NVMe, SATA SSD or hard drives). Why: a database server needs fast disks and memory; a storage server needs capacity; an application server needs cores. A higher price does not always mean the right balance.
Redundancy
What to check: whether disks are in RAID, whether there is a backup service, and how long a failed component takes to replace. Why: a single server is a single point of failure. RAID protects against a disk failing, not against deletion or ransomware, so backups are a separate requirement.
Location and network
What to check: which data centres are offered, port speed, included bandwidth and DDoS protection. Why: distance adds latency. For users in southern Africa, a server in Johannesburg is usually much closer than one in Europe or the USA; for a European or American audience, the reverse is true.
Managed or unmanaged
What to check: who installs the operating system and control panel, applies security patches, monitors the server and restores backups. Why: an unmanaged server is cheaper but needs a capable administrator. “Managed” varies widely, so get the scope in writing.
Control panel and licences
What to check: whether cPanel, Plesk or another panel is included, and what each licence costs per month. Why: licence fees for the panel, CloudLinux, a security suite and a faster web server can add a significant amount to the monthly bill.
Setup time, fees and contract terms
What to check: setup or installation fees, how long provisioning takes, minimum terms and discounts for prepaying. Why: some servers are ready in hours; custom builds can take days or weeks. A long prepay locks you in if your needs change.
SLA and support
What to check: a written availability target with credits, hardware replacement times, and support hours in your time zone. Why: when a dedicated server fails, every site and service on it is down until someone acts.
A shortlist to compare (alphabetical)
This is not a ranking. Facts for other providers come from their own pages; check them again before buying, as configurations and prices change.
Liquid Web
Liquid Web’s pricing breakdown page, as listed on 5 November 2026, describes its dedicated servers as fully managed, with listed prices from $163.25 a month for an Intel Xeon E-2134 server with 4 cores and 12 GB of memory, and states that Plesk and cPanel are available. Confirm current configurations and any promotional terms on its order pages.
OVHcloud
OVHcloud’s Rise range price page, as listed on 5 November 2026, shows RISE-S (AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, 64 GB RAM, 2 x 512 GB NVMe in software RAID, 1 Gbps public bandwidth) at $77 a month plus a $77 installation fee, up to RISE-XL at $354 a month. Check the page for the data centre and availability of each model, and what level of management is included.
Tremhost
Tremhost lists its current dedicated server configurations, locations and prices on its dedicated servers page, so check there for what is in stock and how long setup takes. For control panels, Tremhost supplies shared licences that receive official vendor updates: cPanel and WHM for a dedicated server is $6 a month (or $250 lifetime), Plesk is $6 a month, and CloudLinux $6 a month, with the full list on the licences page. These are supplied by Tremhost, not issued directly by the vendor to the buyer.
If you do not yet need a whole physical server, Tremhost’s KVM VPS plans have dedicated CPU cores, NVMe storage and full root access, up to KVM 9 with 24 cores and 124 GB RAM at $300 a month, in Johannesburg, New York, Miami, Limburg or Roubaix. A managed cPanel VPS starts at $80 a month. Servers are covered by a 99.9% monthly availability target in the Tremhost SLA. Support is by ticket, WhatsApp or booked call, Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00 CAT, not 24/7, and payment can be made by EcoCash, ZimSwitch, cards or cryptocurrency.
Which option suits your situation?
- You have no system administrator: choose a fully managed dedicated server or a managed cPanel VPS, and confirm what management covers.
- You have an experienced administrator and want the lowest monthly cost: an unmanaged server plus only the licences you need.
- Your users are in southern Africa: prioritise a Johannesburg location, even if that means a large VPS instead of dedicated hardware.
- You host many cPanel accounts: compare per-account cPanel licence pricing with flat-rate licences before choosing.
- You need the server this week: check stock and setup times; custom hardware can take days or weeks to deliver.
Frequently asked questions
Is a dedicated server faster than a VPS?
Not automatically. A dedicated server avoids sharing hardware, but a VPS with dedicated cores and NVMe storage can outperform an older dedicated machine. Compare the actual CPU, RAM and disks.
Do dedicated servers include backups?
Often not. RAID is not a backup. Check whether backup storage is included or must be added, and test a restore.
Can I install cPanel on a dedicated server?
Yes, on a supported operating system with a valid licence. You, or your provider on a managed plan, then keep it updated.
