Tremhost VPS hosting gives you an unmanaged KVM virtual server with dedicated CPU cores, reserved RAM, NVMe storage and full root access, from $15 a month. It suits developers and businesses that have outgrown shared hosting and are comfortable running Linux. If you would rather someone else ran the server, Tremhost also offers a managed cPanel VPS.

What you get with a Tremhost VPS

Each plan is a separate KVM virtual machine. KVM is a hypervisor built into the Linux kernel. It splits one physical host into isolated virtual servers, each with its own operating system and kernel. Your server does not share an operating system with other customers, as accounts on shared hosting do.

Every plan includes:

  • Dedicated CPU cores. The cores in your plan are dedicated to your server, and the RAM is reserved for it.
  • NVMe storage. NVMe disks read and write faster than SATA SSDs, which helps databases and busy sites.
  • Full root access. Install any package, control panel, service or kernel module.
  • One public IPv4 address.
  • A VPS control panel. Reboot, reinstall, open a VNC console, view bandwidth graphs and take snapshots.
  • Monthly traffic allowances from 32 TB on the smaller plans to 128 TB on KVM 9.
  • A 99.9% monthly availability target in a written service level agreement, with service credits if it is missed.

The plans differ only in cores, RAM and storage. You can upgrade later in place, so your data stays where it is.

Reasons to choose a Tremhost VPS

Setup in minutes, not days

You choose a plan, a data centre and an operating system, then pay. The server is built automatically once payment goes through, usually within a few minutes. Your root password and IP address arrive by email. Available operating systems are Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, Debian, CentOS and Rocky Linux, and you can reinstall a different one from the VPS panel.

Dedicated resources you can plan around

On shared hosting, many accounts draw on one pool of CPU and memory, with limits per account. A busy neighbour can affect you, and you cannot run your own services. With dedicated cores and reserved RAM, the capacity in your plan is there when your application needs it. That makes performance easier to predict and to size.

Data centres close to your users

Tremhost VPS servers run in five data centres: Johannesburg (South Africa), New York and Miami (USA), Limburg (Germany) and Roubaix (France). Every location has the same plans and prices. For users in Zimbabwe and the rest of Southern Africa, Johannesburg is the closest, which usually means lower latency than a server in Europe or the USA. If most of your users are elsewhere, pick the location nearest to them.

Local payments, US dollar billing

You pay monthly or yearly in US dollars. Accepted methods include EcoCash, InnBucks, ZimSwitch, Omari, Visa, Mastercard, Bitcoin, Tron and Litecoin. Paying yearly on KVM 1 to KVM 6 costs ten times the monthly price, which is two months free.

A local team in Harare

Tremhost was founded in 2016 and is based in Harare. More than 13,000 domains run on its infrastructure. Support is by ticket, WhatsApp on +263 73 563 9917 or a booked call, Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00 CAT. On an unmanaged VPS, the team supports the network, hardware and VPS panel. The software you install on the server is yours to run.

VPS plans and prices

All prices are in US dollars per month:

  • KVM 1: 2 cores, 2 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe, $15
  • KVM 2: 4 cores, 4 GB RAM, 60 GB NVMe, $18
  • KVM 3: 4 cores, 6 GB RAM, 80 GB NVMe, $21
  • KVM 4: 6 cores, 8 GB RAM, 120 GB NVMe, $25
  • KVM 5: 6 cores, 16 GB RAM, 140 GB NVMe, $30
  • KVM 6: 8 cores, 24 GB RAM, 200 GB NVMe, $35
  • KVM 7: 12 cores, 48 GB RAM, 320 GB NVMe, $70
  • KVM 8: 16 cores, 64 GB RAM, 400 GB NVMe, $150
  • KVM 9: 24 cores, 124 GB RAM, 640 GB NVMe, $300

As a rough guide, KVM 2 or KVM 4 fits Docker, Node.js or Python apps and staging servers. KVM 5 suits databases, many containers or heavier traffic. Check the VPS page for current details before you order.

Who a Tremhost VPS suits, and who it does not

An unmanaged VPS is a good fit if you:

  • Need software that shared hosting does not allow, such as Docker, custom services or your own firewall rules.
  • Run a web application, API or database that needs predictable CPU and memory.
  • Want a staging or test server you control completely.
  • Are comfortable on the Linux command line, or willing to learn.

It is not the right choice if you only need to host a few websites and email and do not want to touch Linux. In that case, cPanel web hosting from $30 a year is better value. If you want cPanel and WHM on your own server, with someone else maintaining it, the managed cPanel VPS starts at $80 a month. It includes LiteSpeed, CloudLinux, Imunify360 and backups, is ready in about three hours and comes with free migration. For background on the differences, see what web hosting is.

What you are responsible for on an unmanaged VPS

Root access means control, and control means work. Before you order, plan for these tasks:

  1. Security updates. Keep the operating system and installed packages patched.
  2. Firewall and SSH. Restrict open ports, use SSH keys and disable password logins where you can.
  3. Backups. Snapshots in the VPS panel are included on every plan, and full backups are an add-on you can choose when you order. A snapshot is useful before big changes, but keep separate backups of important data too.
  4. Monitoring. Watch disk space, memory use and service health so problems show up before your users notice.
  5. Your application stack. Web server, database, runtimes and any control panel you install are yours to configure and maintain.

Frequently asked questions

Is Tremhost VPS hosting managed or unmanaged?

The KVM VPS plans are unmanaged. You get full root and configure the server yourself. If you want cPanel/WHM installed and looked after for you, choose the managed cPanel VPS instead.

How quickly is a Tremhost VPS ready?

It is provisioned automatically after payment, usually within a few minutes. Your root login and IP address are sent by email.

Are the CPU cores really dedicated?

Yes. The cores in your plan are dedicated to your server and not shared with other customers, and your RAM is reserved for it.

Which data centre should I choose from Zimbabwe?

For users in Zimbabwe and Southern Africa, Johannesburg is the closest of the five locations. Choose a European or US location if most of your users are there.
