Africa’s Biggest Eye Opener: A Guide to Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe is far from being a hub in Africa, but as the home of Victoria Falls, it is a common destination.

As the home of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe is far from being a hub in Africa, but as the home of Victoria Falls, it is a common destination. Victoria Falls is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and attracts millions of tourists each year.

Zimbabwe is a landlocked country in southern Africa that was once called Rhodesia until it changed its name after becoming independent from Great Britain.

Where is it?

Zimbabwe is located in Southern Africa, bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Mozambique and Botswana. It is a landlocked country with a tropical climate. The population of Zimbabwe is 16.2 million people (2016 estimate).

The capital city of Zimbabwe is Harare.

What makes it different?

Zimbabwe is a country that can be hard to wrap your head around. It’s not a hub for African tourism, so most people avoid it altogether. When they do visit, they’re often surprised by what they find: an entirely different type of culture and landscape than you might expect from an African country.

The food, in particular, is unlike any other cuisine on the continent. You might think you know what African food tastes like—you’re probably thinking about something spicy with lots of garlic and ginger thrown in there somewhere—but Zimbabwean cuisine has its own unique flavor profile that’s worth checking out for yourself!

It’s all about the geography.

You’ll be surprised by the geographical diversity of this country. The southern region has a tropical climate, which means you can expect warm temperatures and lots of rain throughout the year. The north has a temperate climate, with temperatures ranging from hot to cold depending on the season. If you love waterfalls and nature in general, Zimbabwe will not disappoint. It boasts one of the highest numbers of waterfalls in Africa; in fact, there are over 4 000!

What should you try there?

You should definitely try the local beer, which is called Zimba Wines and comes in a variety of flavors. You can also try local food, including goat meat stew and deep-fried locusts. The crafts are mostly handmade by locals, who then sell them to tourists. If you’re looking for music, there are plenty of Zimbabwean musicians who play traditional instruments like drums and flutes.

It’s a shopping paradise, especially for the handmade stuff.

If you’re looking for something more than the standard t-shirt and keychain souvenirs, Zimbabwe is your place. The country is a treasure trove of handcrafted treasures that will make your heart sing. You can find them at craft markets in Harare and Victoria Falls, as well as at local shops and museums. Some of my favorites include handmade African drums and beautiful handmade baskets made from natural materials like palm leaves, paper bark or even elephant grass!

After spending some time in Zimbabwe you’ll have a new appreciation for its people and landscape.

Zimbabwe has a lot to offer. The people are friendly and welcoming, the landscape is stunning, and there’s more wildlife than you can imagine. It’s a great place to visit if you want to escape into the wilderness for a while!

Conclusion

If you can get past the politics, it’s an amazing place to visit.
