Pablo Escobar.

Pablo Escobar (1949-1993) was a notorious Colombian drug lord and leader of the Medellin Cartel, which was one of the world’s most powerful and violent drug trafficking organizations during the 1980s and early 1990s. Escobar was born in Rionegro, Colombia and grew up in the city of Medellin.

In the 1970s, Escobar began trafficking cocaine on a large scale, and quickly became one of the richest and most powerful men in Colombia. He used his wealth to gain political influence and engage in philanthropic activities, even as he ordered the assassination of hundreds of people who threatened his power.

Escobar’s reign of terror came to an end in 1993, when he was killed by Colombian police while on the run from authorities. His death was a major blow to the Medellin Cartel, which soon fell apart.

Despite his violent and criminal activities, Escobar remains a controversial figure in Colombia and around the world. Some people view him as a Robin Hood-like figure who used his wealth to help the poor and fight against government corruption, while others see him as a ruthless criminal responsible for the deaths of thousands of people.

Pablo Escobar is often referred to as the “King of Cocaine” due to his massive drug trafficking empire, which at its height was responsible for the majority of the global cocaine trade. Some estimates suggest that Escobar’s Medellin Cartel was responsible for as much as 80% of the cocaine smuggled into the United States during the 1980s.

Escobar was known for his brutal tactics, including ordering the assassination of politicians, judges, and members of the media who opposed him. He also waged a campaign of terror against the Colombian government, bombing buildings and assassinating officials in order to pressure the government into an agreement that would protect him from extradition to the United States.

Despite his violent activities, Escobar was also known for his philanthropy. He built schools, hospitals, and housing projects for the poor in Medellin, and was widely seen as a Robin Hood-like figure who used his wealth to help those in need. However, many people in Colombia and around the world view his philanthropy as a cynical attempt to gain public support and evade prosecution.

Escobar’s life and crimes have been the subject of numerous books, documentaries, and films. He remains a controversial figure, with some people viewing him as a folk hero and others as a ruthless criminal responsible for the deaths of thousands of people.
