How to Get Dog Pee Smell Out of a Microfiber Couch

Let’s be honest—life with dogs is full of love, laughter, and, well… surprises. If you’ve just discovered that your furry friend has left a not-so-lovely gift on your microfiber couch, don’t panic! With the right steps, you can banish that dog pee smell and get your living room back to fresh and clean.

Step 1: Act Fast!

The sooner you tackle the accident, the easier it is to remove both the stain and the odor. If the pee is still fresh, use paper towels or a clean cloth to blot (not rub!) as much moisture as possible. Press firmly to soak up as much as you can—microfiber is absorbent, so this step is key.

Step 2: Mix Up a Cleaning Solution

You don’t need fancy cleaners; just grab what you have at home:

  • White vinegar (nature’s odor neutralizer)
  • Water
  • A spray bottle

Mix a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts water in your spray bottle.

Step 3: Treat the Area

  • Lightly spray the affected area with your vinegar solution (don’t soak it; microfiber doesn’t love being drenched).
  • Let it sit for 5–10 minutes—vinegar will help break down the odor-causing compounds.
  • Blot again with a clean towel to lift out the solution and any remaining pee.

Step 4: Sprinkle Baking Soda

Baking soda is a miracle worker for lingering odors.

  • Once the area is just damp, sprinkle a generous layer of baking soda over the spot.
  • Let it sit for several hours (overnight is perfect).
  • Vacuum up the baking soda once it’s dry.

Step 5: Rinse (Optional) and Fluff

If you’re worried about a vinegar smell or residue, lightly mist the spot with plain water and blot dry. Then use a soft brush to gently fluff the microfiber once everything is dry.

For Stubborn Odors

If the smell persists:

  • Repeat the process above, or
  • Use an enzymatic cleaner designed for pet messes (these break down urine at a molecular level). Just check that it’s safe for microfiber!

Bonus Tips

  • Always spot test any solution on a hidden area first.
  • Avoid harsh scrubbing—this can damage the microfiber.
  • Keep a cover or throw on your couch if you’re training a new pup (or dealing with a repeat offender).

Final Thoughts

Dog accidents happen to the best of us! With a little patience and some household staples, you can get your microfiber couch smelling fresh again—no need to stress or splurge on professional cleaning.
