How to Cancel a DoorDash Order After It’s Been Placed

We’ve all been there: you’re hungry, you place a DoorDash order, and then—oops! Maybe you picked the wrong dish, realized you ordered from the wrong restaurant, or had a sudden change of plans. Whatever the reason, don’t worry. Canceling a DoorDash order is possible, and I’m here to walk you through it step by step.

Step 1: Open the DoorDash App or Website

First things first, grab your phone or hop on your computer. Open the DoorDash app or go to doordash.com and log in to your account.

Step 2: Find Your Order

  • Tap the Orders tab (it usually looks like a little receipt icon on the bottom menu).
  • Find the order you want to cancel. It should be right at the top if it’s in progress.

Step 3: Tap “Help” or “View Order”

  • Select your active order.
  • Look for a button that says “Help” or “View Order.”

Step 4: Choose “Cancel Order”

  • In the help or order options, you’ll see “Cancel Order.”
  • Tap it, and DoorDash will ask you to confirm.

Step 5: Check Your Refund Eligibility

Here’s where it gets real:

  • If you cancel early enough (before the restaurant has started preparing your food), you’ll usually get a full refund.
  • If the restaurant has started cooking or a Dasher has already been assigned, you might only get a partial refund.
  • If the Dasher is already on the way, you may not get a refund at all.

DoorDash will show you the refund amount before you hit “Confirm,” so there won’t be any surprises.

Step 6: Confirm the Cancellation

Once you’ve reviewed the refund details, confirm that you want to cancel. You should get an email and a notification confirming the cancellation and refund (if applicable).

What If You Have Trouble Cancelling?

If you run into any issues—like the app freezing, or you can’t find the cancel button—you can always contact DoorDash support:

Quick Tips:

  • Act fast! The sooner you cancel, the better your chance for a full refund.
  • Double-check your order before you place it to avoid last-minute changes.
  • If you’re not sure about something, DoorDash support is generally quick and helpful.

Ordering food should be stress-free, but when plans change, it’s good to know you’ve got options. Have you ever had to cancel a DoorDash order? Share your experience or tips in the comments below!
